VANGUARD
Leverage First Generation Professionals’ (FGPs) Strengths for Career & Leadership Success
First Generation Professionals (FGPs) are individuals who represent the first in their families to pursue white-collar office roles and/or earn a college degree. The Vanguard course, designed to leverage FGPs’ strengths and address their challenges, develops leaders to shine with their best foot forward. This strengths-based approach empowers FGPs to build momentum toward leadership and professional success by developing the following key skills:
- Interpersonal Intelligence with Impact. Having succeeded in office environments without prior family experience in similar roles, FGPs often excel in applying interpersonal dynamics. Enhance this ability toward deliberate interpersonal intelligence, which forges trusted relationships and influence.
- Empathy & Energy for Effectiveness and Excellence. FGPs often bring empathy, grit, and resilience to the table. Refine these traits to channel them into strategies that drive both individual and organizational success.
- POP! (Positive Office Politics) in Action. With an understanding of personal dynamics, FGPs can use their skills to navigate workplace politics with compassion and care. Further engage in positive office politics (POP) to foster collaboration and achieve results.
- The MORE Model: Motivation + Opportunities + Resilience = Excellence. Master the MORE Model to drive leadership growth and strategic organizational impact.
Leadership Competency DNA Matrix
The Leadership Competency DNA Matrix stems from a meta study of almost 200 articles that list key competencies for Board and Executive leaders.
These have been consolidated into the following competencies, which balance concise categories with preserving nuances of distinct competencies.
